Im Reinhardswald, Hofgeismar
Wonderful property, enchanted castle in the Reinhardtswald. The restaurant and hotel are closed and should be renovated. There is nothing to be seen of that. Landscape is great. There is a performance of Sleeping Beauty on Sundays. Food truck is mediocre. Prices acceptable. Do not understand why such places are not prepared. Too bad. Outlook fine thing
Very beautiful enchanted place. Great idea to leave the facade of the main castle. In the improvised food truck you can learn something about the past and future of the castle. Tip ... be sure to go to the toilet. There is a foretaste of the future 4 * hotel.
You have to see it ...
Unfortunately there is only one view from the outside at the moment! A long-term renovation is due! For a long time it was the center of attraction in Reinhardswald as the "Sleeping Beauty Castle"!
Closed for renovation 😭 (maybe open on weekends, but that is totally unclear).
Really worth seeing. Nice destination for the whole family.
Currently the renovation is in progress. It will probably take until 2024.
The bubble castle is familiar with Princess Thorn.
The castle is picturesque, is currently more or less restored, you can not clean. Rather moderate restoration. Area beautiful.
Unfortunately closed. Only came just before the castle and a piece around it.
Nice environment. But unfortunately is being renovated, without what was on the Internet m
Nice walls. The homemade ice cream is delicious
We were very disappointed! From the outside a beautiful castle and inside only an old restaurant in which it smelled terrible. The cappuccino inedible and the cake a disaster. We can not recommend it.
Anyone who is interested in fairy tales, for the Sleeping Beauty Castle is simply a must. And the adjacent zoo with its spaciousness is one of them. Very relaxing, also and especially with children
Nice place to relax and hike, even the jungle is very interesting well-laid paths invite you to long walks ...
Staying in this castle hotel was a wonderful experience. The staff, the condition of the rooms and the service was amazing. The staff was super awesome especially being so helpful with speaking in fluent english and helping us with translations and food choices etc. The dinner was amazing and so was the breakfast - so absolutely nothing to complain about and only praises about this wonderful place. We got a room at the top of the tower and it really added to the experience of staying at the sleeping beauty castle. THUMBS UP and HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
Only got to see the outside as the garden was closed during winter
Wonderful and attentive front desk staff (who paid special attention to our specific timing needs) - very magical grounds - beautiful, gourmet dinner and a GORGEOUSLY re-done room. We loved it, it's worth the drive and we highly recommend....
Our stay at Dornroschenschloss was the highlight of our 2 week trip to Germany. We loved staying in the Wild Mare room; the furnishings, the bathtub for 2 and the view! We enjoyed champagne after our dinner in the restaurant. Our server, Hannah, spoke English, took our photos and made suggestions for our meal. The food was excellent, and the rose liqueur over vanilla ice creme is now a favorite dessert. We brought home 2 bottles as well as a few other reminders of our wonderful stay at Dornroschenschloss. We would love to come back again!
Why have a bell on the counter if no one comes when you ring it?
Very idyllic location, exclusive menu to the quality we can not say anything, since we wanted to stay only briefly. Unfortunately we were on the outside terrace, despite fewer guests and only on request in the hotel after another 10 minutes only served. The ordered bottled beer for 4.50 euros had expired for 2 weeks in the minimum shelf life but still drinkable. The tea was very good. That's why only 3 stars.
Super romantic hotel. We stayed in the tower so it also had epic views.
Very nice old castle that has been well restored. However, it is a hotel or restaurant. I did not visit them. So my assessment only relates to this beautiful place. And why not five stars? Because I think 4 euros for the outside viewing is very expensive. But this is perhaps the way to keep too many curious tourists away.
Lovely castle in fantastic surroundings. Food was excellent and we were well looked after by staff.
Great place to visit on our travels around Germany! The room was spacious and was able to accommodate our family of four. Beautiful place, great food and lovely gardens.
Accommodating to English speakers. Chef and cooking staff are talented. Downside is the location was difficult for GPS to find. Found place after several calls to the Hotel for directions' clarity through the winding roads.
Thank you for a wonderful stay in your tower. Your team was awesome. From the reception, the breakfast reception, to the waitress (and not to forget the chefs). I very much enjoyed the dinner, overlooking the Tierpark. I will not forget the experience and hope to return again.
A castle with a beautiful garden and surrounding nature, and a great view from the rooms. Really good tasting food of a new original type, both dinner and breakfast, but especially the dinner. Kind and open personnel, easy to talk to. I would visit again if I am in the neighborhood.
I did not stay at the hotel, but I did visit the castle. The tour takes you through the gardens and the ruins of the castle explaining the story of Sleeping Beauty through steel sculptures and following the brochure that you are given. Interesting and beautiful. It is part of the route of the Grimm brothers' stories, the Deutsche Märchen Straße. The price is € 4.
Beautiful place to visit, take the your around the grounds and enjoy a cup of coffee and cake on the terrace. Did not stay at the hotel, but it must be a dream. Very friendly staff
The hotel is amazing: clean, comfortable rooms and excellent shower, wonderfully decorated, entertaining (there is a garden that tells the story of Sleeping Beauty), the staff is extremely kind and the breakfast is delicious and very rich with many kinds of cheese, cereals, salmon and lots of fruits and ready-made eggs on demand. The hotel's store is worth a glance. We had an incredible experience and we totally recommend it. Our only "but" was the private audience with the Sleeping Beauty and the Prince. The actor that played the Prince had a perfect performance, he was very into it. However, we honestly expected more of the actress: she had snicker shoes on with striped socks, was wearing no make-up and her acting was good, but compared to the Prince, it was not the ideal. We were a little bit disappointed with this audience, for which we payed 95 euros.
Great castle with good service. Well suited for weddings and other celebrations. Great view and a large zoo nearby.
This is one of the great treats of this region north east of frankfurt..the fairy tale road. With a stay at the castle and a walk through the best example of park and wildlife in the country. That is one great day and at least another day in the area, the valleys around and the walks in the area are not to be missed. The hosts and the accommodations are first class. Our second trip and looking forward to our next!
Everything perfect! My parents were very pleased. They also mentioned the person that attended to them was very helpful and kind. The place is fabulous and the landscapes to dream of. Amazing experience.
The place is absolutely amazing. Everything looks like it came out of a fairy tale. The hotel has done a great job in keeping the medieval style of the castle while at the same time providing a luxurious atmosphere. We stayed at one of the towers in the rain deer room. The bed was amazing as was the bathtub. The food at the restaurant was also quite high standard. Many things to do in the area around. The Tierpark, as well as hiking in the forests around the castle. Unfortunately the hotel does not provide service to match the rooms. The room could be cleaner and more maintained. The maid should provide new soap after cleaning. The breakfast could also be better. The region has many local products that the hotel is also selling, they could use those in the breakfast. At this price it is expected that attention should be given to every little detail. This was true regarding decoration of the rooms and facilities but not service.
it's worth seeing a little sightseeing
What a lovely place to stay! We recently stayed one night in a tower room. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, and enjoyed the self-guided tour of the grounds. Our entire stay was characterized by comfort, elegance, and attention to detail. I would highly recommend Dornroschenschloss Sababurg. It was the highlight of our trip.
You couldn't ask for a better view of the countryside. Lovely setting in a picturesque castle surrounded by roses and sheep grazing along the rolling green hills. Hotel staff is obsequiously friendly and they have soft classical music playing in hidden speakers as you check in before finding your animal-themed room. The rooms are a bit small but clean and have A+ views. Free WiFi didn't work in the room but in a common room down the hallway. Eat at the restaurant; it's pricey but delicious and with impeccable service. Room includes entry into the garden/grounds/tower and pennies for the wishing well. Breakfast is included and made-to-order. Parking is free. There's a fabulous animal park nearby to visit. Well worth the drive and money. :)

If you expect to be able to walk around the castle, be prepared for disappointment. Unless you are here for the restaurant, better skip it.
The Castle fell is unique, so can not simply compare with other hotels in city. The place is really very quite and the staffs are all very kind. Breakfast is good. Two points may could improve: 1. No WIFI and even the Mobile signal is only E (instead of 3G or 4G) 2. The dinner is expensive. The food tastes very common or even a little under performing comparing with the food in normal restaurant in city while charging the Michelin one star price.
Many thanks for helping me celebrate my friend's birthday :) The best thing of this castle hotel is those super nice staff. Also the dinner and breakfast are very nice and delicious - the view from the dining room is spectacular! We like the atmosphere and decorations of the environment, for girls this is just like living in the fairy tale story ;). Driving will be much more convenient but if taking the bus, be aware of the bus time table.
Staff is tremendous! Very helpful and attentive! The room at the top of the tower was more than we expected. Dinner and breakfast was great. We had a wonderful experience.
Beautiful hotel. My mother stayed in the tower room, which is really the only way to go. We stayed in a regular room because we are cheap asses. Not that the room is cheap. If you are in for the night for a long time, bring a laptop because we had a tiny, tiny tv. WiFi is only strong in the lobby as well. For the good stuff: The food was delicious. We ate dinner at the restaurant and recommend it. Also, the wait staff were super nice and very attentive. I say this because this isn't usual in Germany. The hotel was clean and of course in a beautiful location.
Compare to similar locations (other Castle-Hotels) this is by far the worst we have visited. Room prices are way over what the hotel has to offer and the service is mediocre at best. The location of the Castle is its best feature. The exterior of the Castle is beautiful even if the renovation was not done in respect of the original materials. The Castle grounds and the surrounding woods and are quite charming, so hiking around is a enjoyable activity. The inside of the Castle is a different story. The renovation took away any feeling of the original place, leaving nothing but a regular looking building with some old looking but not original furniture. We stay in one of the Castle Bower rooms (at 175 euros per night) and the experience was very disappointing. The room we had was very tired, the furniture was old, carpet and walls were stained, one window was cracked, the door to the balcony didn't work properly. The balcony was the best the room had to offer, however the outside furniture was all cheap plastic and quite dirty. The bathroom was old, dark and not very clean. The staff was not very helpful or even very polite. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and romantic, staff here is nicer than in rest of the hotel. However, the food is very average and on the expensive side (80 euros for a dinner for two). For what we pay, and other reviews we read, we expected much more of what we got. We recommend to visit the exterior of the Castle (there is a "Fairy Trail" you can take for a modest fee) or to have a coffee on the terrace cafe, but not to stay at the hotel.
We stayed at Hotel Dornroschenschloss Sababurg for one night. All staff was very nice and helpful. The dinner and breakfast was absolutely gorgerous. Lots of homemade food which was a good treat to me. The room is a bit small and worn. Drainage of the shower was flooded.
Very good castle hotel, good service, especially breakfast is GREAT. You can't miss it. However, one of the light in our room didn't work . I think it was OK. It is a good hotel and worth to stay it.....
This castle is so unique! I loved all the fairy tale references, and the "stars" under the bed were such a delight! The staff made us feel special and well cared for, food was delicious. The spinning wheel in the tower was a nice touch. Loved Venus the dog who was around to greet us :) I will say that the website is hard to maneuver if you speak another language, as well as the fairy tale website. I had to email/call and hope for the best. Would definitely stay here again, what a treat!
I enjoyed my stay here last weekend. The proprietors were very kind and accommodating, and the free evening tour was great even in the snow! Pros are that the castle is really neat and has amazing views, the people are very nice and the food is delicious. Cons were that it was very cold in my room at night (#13) even with the heaters going full blast and it was difficult to get to with public transportation (ended up taking a taxi since the bus couldn't get through with the roads icy, which was 21 euro each way). Overall I'm glad I went once for the novelty of it and would recommend it to anyone interested in Grimm brothers especially during summer, but I don't want to go a second time.
The food and service was amazing. Great wait staff and really delicious food (quite reasonable for the quality compared to Australia). We stayed two nights and got upgraded to a royal tower room. The GOOD SIDES: -The service was really great -The food was amazing and quite a reasonable price for its quality -The drive to the castle/hotel was really beautiful. -The room was a nice combination of antique and modern furniture. -The common rooms (essentially hallways) in the tower were quite nice, I particularly liked the circular room with two old seats and a suit of armor - it had really cool acoustics so nice for discussing serious things. -Spacious and comfortable bathroom The DOWN SIDES: - very forced/manufactured romantic atmosphere - good but not amazing views from our room and from the dining room - quite expensive, even though we got upgraded for free
